Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact is recorded for the Sanze Fm onto the underlying Gezhadi Fm

Upper contact

Conformable contact is recorded for the Sanze Fm with the overlying Yongren Fm

Regional extent

In the area south of Sanze, it is dominated by carbonate rock, intercalated with clastics and tuff, in thickness of 340-700 m. In the area north of Batang, lithological variation becomes considerable; it is composed of clastics intercalated with carbonate rock and volcanic rock of thickness 816 m at Dangjiezhengla; volcanic clastics and carbonate rock of 870 m thick at Buzhe; 1851 m thick at Jiaying; volcanic rock, clastics and carbonate rock of 2352 m in thickness at Ranxi and Oyie Mt. In brief, the thickness of the formation increases from south to north; volcanic rock decreases from central part to northern part; minor tuff occurs in south. The formation is exposed merely at Zhongza, Batang County, Sichuan Province.
